What is a rural gîte ?

A house where you can make yourself at home…
A holiday home that can be enjoyed by family or friends all year round. A gîte is a private property that can be rented for a week (usually from Saturday to Saturday), a weekend or a short stay at certain times of year.

Each gîte has reception rooms, bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom and is well equipped to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

  • The location, in the country, the mountains or by the sea, is always superb and boasts peace and quiet and beautiful outside spaces.
  • Owners’ welcomes have been fine-tuned and an important feature of a gîte holiday is the relationship between the owner of the property and the holiday-maker. Openness, willingness and generosity are owners’ watchwords to make your stay both interesting and exciting.
  • The gîtes’ architecture is as varied as the many activities available throughout the different regions and wherever you stay, you’ll find plenty of nature to see and plenty of things to do.

The range of gîtes available is enormous, ranging from 2-person to 10-person accommodation. Some owners have more than one gîte allowing for families to go on holiday to the same area together.

What is a bed and breakfast ?

A home away from home.
A French-style bed and breakfast: for one or several nights, you'll be warmly welcomed into a converted private residence (farmhouse, country cottage, château, etc.) with a maximum of 6 guestrooms.

  • Always included in the price of an overnight stay is a hearty breakfast, the perfect opportunity to discover local specialities. Depending on the particular guesthouse and the culinary inspiration of your host, you'll enjoy home-made jams and pastries, fresh farmhouse bread, local cheeses and dairy products, and regional charcuterie. Begin your day with a friendly French breakfast.
  • A table d'hôte meal (possibility of half or full-board) will allow you to share, depending on the guesthouse, a family or gourmet meal. The table d'hôte is only available to persons staying at the guesthouse (it is not a restaurant). At the time of booking, you should therefore mention if you intend to take advantage of this option.

What is a stopover gite or a holidays gite ?

Having fun together...
These large gîtes (from 12 to 50 persons) are perfectly suited to families and groups of friends who would like to spend a weekend or their holidays together. They also cater to groups looking for a venue to hold a conference, nature and discovery classes, or an athletic course, as well as serving as a stopover for hikers, cyclists and horse riders.

All stopover and holiday gîtes offer :

  • living areas,
  • bedrooms or dormitories with comfortable bedding (sheets are sometimes provided)
  • and private or shared bathroom facilities.

Depending on the particular gîte, you might have access to a fully equipped kitchen ("self service") or be able to take advantage of catering arrangements provided by the owner (meals, picnic lunches, restaurant-inns, etc.).

The setting is always outstanding, whether in the countryside, in the mountains or by the sea, and perfect for enjoying the outdoors in peace and quiet.

The gîtes give priority to availability, conviviality, the sharing of new experiences, and a generosity which makes for excellent relations between the holidaymakers and owners.

The architecture of our gîtes is as varied as the pleasures on offer: wherever you choose to pass your holidays, you'll enjoy easy access to all the advantages of nature and of each region.

"Nature" campsites

Camping in the countryside...
"Nature" campsites - located on grassy, shaded, well-exposed plots of land that remain accessible whatever the weather - offer holidaymakers a privileged stay since the number of spaces is limited to 25 (with 300 to 400 m2 per camping space).

Often located in the vicinity of a farm, you can appreciate the local terroir by savouring farm-fresh produce.

Enjoy all the pleasures of country life in a friendly, relaxed setting, and take advantage of the various leisure facilities available, depending on the site.

The Gîtes de France quality label guarantees that your campsite meets specific standards of comfort (from 1 to 4 "ears of corn") and complies with the national charter.

“Nature”campsites are inspected at least once every five years; ratings vary according to the site's setting, comfort and services.

"Traditional" campsites

Our "traditional" campsites have up to 150 spaces (80 to 100 m2 each), with leisure facilities and organized activities for the whole family.

The campsites are rated from 1 to 4 stars (according to a prefectural ratings system) , depending on the nature and number of their facilities (camping space size, number of showers/toilets, etc.).

Some campsites also offer chalets or mobile homes for rent.

Chalet villages and mobil-homes

Located in the heart of the countryside, these accommodations allow you to enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities (such as fishing, riding, mountain biking, and archery) on site.

These chalets or mobile homes are always grouped together on the same site and generally accommodate from 4 to 6 persons. Each is equipped with at least one living room with kitchenette, one bedroom and one bathroom.

What is a children's gite ?

Offer your kids a holiday in the country !
During the school holidays, families carefully selected by Gîtes de France welcome your children (ages 4 to 15) in the countryside, in the mountains or by the sea.

A unique holiday option, these gîtes organize for children (minimum of 3/maximum of 20) all sorts of fun activities:

  • Instructive activities: theatre, dance, introductory computing, foreign languages, etc.
  • Handicrafts: painting, pottery, enamelling, etc.
  • Sports: hiking, skiing, kayaking, riding, sailing, swimming, BMXing, etc.

Children's gîtes provide a home away from home for your children during the school holidays, with the added benefit of a healthy, outdoor life in the country. Lodged in small dormitories, the children enjoy access to the whole house, in particular the game room and garden.

The smaller gîtes are often located on a farm, where the children can learn about nature and observe the animals. Other gîtes offer one or more main activities, usually with a minimum daily or weekly programme adapted to the child's own pace.
